Twice as many holiday homes booked for the upcoming Christmas holidays

Amsterdam, 19 November 2021- For the upcoming Christmas holidays, the Dutch have booked more than twice as many holiday homes compared to last year. This is evident from data from holiday home specialist Belvilla.

The data shows that 147% more holiday homes were booked for the upcoming Christmas holiday compared to bookings for the 2020 Christmas holiday made up to 11 November 2020.

Netherlands
The most booked destination is the Netherlands (33%), followed by Austria (27%) and Belgium (23%). Compared to 2019, bookings to Austria have more than doubled.  

Within the Netherlands, the provinces of North Holland (20%), Zeeland (13%) and Limburg (12%). 

Traditionally
Dutch people tend to stay mainly in their own country during the Christmas holidays, says Hanita van der Meer, Director PR and Communications of Belvilla and OYO Vacation Homes: “With all the travel restrictions, the Netherlands was of course the top destination for Dutch people last year. But also in previous years, about half of our Dutch bookers stayed in their own country during the Christmas holidays.”
