Dutch travellers book holiday homes abroad again for summer and autumn
Amsterdam, March 16th, 2021- Of the Dutch travellers who have already booked a trip for the summer period, 55% have chosen a foreign destination. This is evident from Belvilla data.
After the almost compulsory holiday in the Netherlands in 2020, Belvilla sees that destinations outside the Netherlands are taking over again. More than half of the Dutch bookers have booked a holiday home outside of the Netherlands for the summer.
Most booked countries for the summer:
Belgium (14%)
France (13%)
Austria (10.5%)
Bubble
Hanita van der Meer, Director PR and Communication at Belvilla: “Last summer season, a holiday in our own country was obviously the thing to do, given the circumstances. With the positive sounds of the past few weeks, it seems that next summer we will be able to go on holiday abroad again. We see that holiday homes where you can go by car are particularly popular at the moment. This allows travellers to stay safely in their ‘own bubble’ with their travelling companions. Because we have holiday homes all over Europe, holidaymakers can choose a destination across the border as well as in the Netherlands. Moreover, people can choose whether to drive or fly.”
Autumn
For the autumn (the months of September and October), the number of bookings rose by 68% compared to the same period last year. Bookings for that period are currently mainly made for:
Belgium (23%)
Germany (6.5%)
France (6%)
The offer of Belvilla, since 2019 part of OYO Vacation Homes, consists of over 40,000 holiday homes in 20 European countries.
