Dutch holidaymakers again choose foreign destinations in spring holiday
Amsterdam, 10 february 2022- Dutch holidaymakers are again choosing foreign destinations in the spring holidays. This is evident from data from holiday home specialist Belvilla.
Bookings for the spring holidays (19 February – 6 March) rose by 119% compared to last year. Remarkable: last year, 95% of bookings in this period were for a destination in the Netherlands, now this is ‘only’ 28%.
Austria is the most popular destination for spring holidays (39%), followed by the Netherlands (28%) and Belgium (18%).
Low season
Hanita van der Meer, Director PR and Communications at Belvilla and OYO Vacation Homes, underscores the trend that more foreign holiday homes are being booked outside of the high season: “Over the past two years, many Dutch people travelled abroad in the summer, but in the low season they mainly stayed in the Netherlands, partly due to the many travel restrictions. We now see that foreign destinations are again being chosen outside of the high season. We also see that not only families book with us: groups of friends and couples also choose a holiday home more often.
