Despite uncertainty, 60% of Dutch people book a holiday home abroad this summer
Amsterdam, 20 april 2021 – Despite the uncertainty whether or not we will be able to go on holiday, most Dutch people are confident that they will be able to stay abroad this summer. This is evident from data from holiday home specialist Belvilla.
Of the holiday homes that have already been booked for the summer period, 60% were booked outside of the Netherlands. The share of Dutch people booking a holiday home abroad is increasing every week. 29% of the bookings outside the Netherlands go to Belgium, followed by France (24%) and Austria (17%).
Car
It is no coincidence that the most booked holiday homes are located in countries that are easy to reach by car. Hanita van der Meer, Director PR and Communication at Belvilla: “We have noticed that destinations outside of the Netherlands have gained the upper hand over domestic holidays. Despite the mixed signals about travel restrictions this summer, we see that Dutch travellers have confidence in a holiday abroad. At the moment, our guests clearly opt for holiday homes that are easy to reach by car, such as holiday homes in Belgium and Austria. Depending on changing travel advice, further destinations may gain in popularity, although the uncertainty is simply too great for that at the moment.”
The offer of Belvilla, since 2019 part of OYO Vacation Homes, consists of over 40,000 holiday homes in 20 European countries.
