Vienna, 25. February 2022 – The tourism industry experienced a rather bumpy start to this year due to the beginning omicron wave. But Austrian Belvilla guests are optimistic about 2022 and are already planning their trips. Currently Belvilla records a plus of 116% in bookings by Austrian guests, compared to the same period in the previous year (stood until February 23).  But also in comparison to 2020, there is a plus of 10% and even 22% compared to 2019. Austrian Belvilla guests are particularly confident in Austria, Denmark and Croatia. These three countries record a growth in the middle three-digit percentage range in bookings from Austria compared to 2021 and 2020: Denmark can even be pleased about a plus of 85% compared to the pre-pandemic year 2019. Scandinavia is also on the rise again this year, with Norway recording an incredible 2160% increase in bookings from Austria compared to 2021.

SKI SEASON 2022

In the ski months: January, February, March and April 2022, guests from Germany dominate the domestic tourist flows, as in 2020. While in 2019 more guests from the Netherlands made ski vacations in Austria than guests from our neighboring country Germany. When it comes to the most popular region for ski vacations Vorarlberg provides a surprising only 5 place on the popularity scale this year, while Salzburger Land with almost 44% of bookings holds first place followed by Tyrol with 40%, Styria with 7% and Carinthia with 5% in 4th place.

THE SKI OFF-SEASON IS BOOMING

Spring is just around the corner! But that doesn’t mean that the winter sports season is already over! In March and April, guests can still enjoy the snowy slopes in the Austrian Alps to the fullest.

The low season in March is particularly popular, with 85% of Austrian Belvilla guests booking a vacation in the Austrian mountains during this time. Compared to March 2019, there are already 66% more bookings made by Austrian Belvilla guests in Austria. During the Easter vacations Austrian Belvilla guests prefer warmer countries such as Italy and Croatia.

The first week of March is also the start of the low season, which currently has only 16% fewer bookings than the last week of the high season, which is increasingly booked by Dutch people due to semester vacations in the Netherlands and Croatia.
